Fed: Howard hints at late November election

Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD has hinted the federal election could be held in late November.

Mr HOWARD says it's clear the nation is preoccupied now with the Athens Olympics, and
he still hasn't made up his mind about a poll date.

He told Sydney radio 2UE yesterday he doesn't think people want to have the Olympics
interrupted by too much politics.

Mr HOWARD says the third anniversary of the 2001 election falls on November the 10th,
and there'd be nothing unusual about having an election in late November.

He says it also wouldn't make much sense for the election to be held the Saturday before
Americans vote on Tuesday, November the 2nd.

Opposition Leader MARK LATHAM's called on Mr HOWARD not to stretch the election out
past November the 10th.
