NSW: 90,000 birds to be killed to eradicate Newcastle disease

New South Wales Agriculture hopes to permanently wipe out Newcastle disease by giving
the go-ahead for the slaughter of 90,000 chickens.

Five poultry flocks affected with virulent strain of Newcastle disease 11 months ago
will be slaughtered by their owners -- with advice from relevant health authorities --
from January 8.

The flocks are located at Moonbi near Tamworth, Rossmore, Llandilo and Orchard Hills
in western Sydney.
